DigiPen Video Game Animation & Design

Students learn to design and create video games using trigonometry and higher math, computer programming in C++, as well as 2D computer animation. With guidance from the program partner, Digipen Institute of Technology, the course prepares students for skills necessary for video game industry's biggest needs: qualified video game designers, programmers and artists.

Strong drawing skills are not needed. Such skills will be developed and refined as you progress throughout the program. This is a math intensive program. Curriculum provided by Digipen Institute.

Hi, I'm Jim Flatmo, the instructor for the Digipen/Video Game Design program here at Sno-Isle. I'm pleased to be teaching this program, especially here just a few short miles from Redmond - one of the major hubs of the industry. Students who excel in this program have a chance to be in the heart of a fast paced, rewarding industry where creativity, teamwork and leadership provide virtually limitless opportunities.

This class also partners with Digipen Technical Institute, the leading college for Video Game design. Digipen graduates are found in almost every major game studio, and a college degree from Digipen is a virtual guarantee of getting a job doing something you love. However, as exciting and fun as this kind of opportunity is - it's also a lot of work. Students in this program must not only practice their design skills, they are essentially learning a new language (c++) while also pushing their limits in math and physics. This course is an Algebra II equivalency in most sending school districts.

In many of the programs offered at Sno-Isle Tech students have an opportunity to earn college credit at the same time they are earning high school credit. The total registration cost per Sno-Isle Tech program is usually $30 or less (and in many cases is FREE!). Students must complete their Sno-Isle Tech program with a "B" grade or better. It is the student's responsibility to register online or complete a registration packet. Ask your Sno-Isle Tech instructor for details about "Tech Prep".
